Silica is available abundantly in nature. It has natural crystalline structure and has excellent whiteness and brightness. It is inert to acids, alkalies and chemicals Chemical Properties:- Purity as Si02= 45.17% Fe203= 0.01% CaO= 0.0033% AI203= 0.013% Physical Properties:- Oil absorption value=  l5-20ml/I00gm Sp.gravity= 2.65 Refractive index= 1.55 Loss on ignition= 0.3% pH of 10% aqueous solution= 7 Industrial Application:- Silica is being used in bulk in glass industry, Ferro silicon, Ferro alloys, welding rods, pottery and other industries. It is also used in making silica Ferromanganese alloys. Paints:- In wood finish, primers, undercoat, water based paints, distemper, chemical resistance coating, floor coating etc. Silica is also used in construction chemicals.
